GAME: FITNESS GAME

Name of Activity: Fitness Game

Purpose of Activity: To elevate the heart rate and have students work in groups

Materials Needed: Cones, magic markers, 1 index card for each student

Description of Idea

Spread cones throughout playing area at random. Under each cone is a different colored marker. (Leave some cones without markers under them so they are "decoys").

Have students get into small groups (2-3 students per group), give an index card to each student, and assign each group a different color marker to find.

All members of the group must make a mark on their card with the color the teacher assigned them. They do this by going out into the playing area, lifting the cones and seeing what colored marker is under the cone. Group members do not necessarily have to stay together during the search. However, they must be together when they show the teacher they have found the correct color and marked their card correctly.

After the group shows the teacher the correct color, inform them of the next color they must find.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure and stress to students to leave the markers under the cones and put the marker lids back on!

Teaching Suggestions:

Keep the time limit on this activity fairly short (i.e., 5-7 minutes). The students do not need to find all of the colors you have put under the cones.

Have students take pulse before and after the activity.
